This book draws critical connections between teacher education or preparation and the field of comparative and international education (CIE) showing ways in which the two fields can inform and advance one another. The chapters consider how teacher education shapes and is shaped by CIE, particularly in an era of socio-cultural upheavals, politico-economic transformations and climate or health crises affecting the human and natural world. The question at the core of the book is: in what ways can comparative and international education support a rethinking of teacher education in the wake of the social movements for equity, justice and civil liberties with ramifications for educators around the world? It includes contributions from leading academics based in Argentina, Canada, China, Columbia, Finland, Grenada, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Spain, South Africa, Turkey and the USA. The chapters cover topics ranging from equity, social justice, and the sustainable development goals to country case-studies including teacher education in Myanmar and a comparative study of teacher preparation in South Korea and the USA.

Recenzijos

This collection critically examines how comparative and international education can foster a much-needed reimagined teacher education. In an era where demand for equity and justice is paramount, this book offers a valuable amalgam of research and practice to support a more prominent role for a localized globalism in teacher education. * Patricia Kubow, Professor of International and Comparative Education, Indiana University, USA * This brilliant and timely edited volume reminds us that the world is becoming increasingly flat. The editors comparative examination across place and space of how the socio-political context shapes the life course of teachers career makes it required reading not only for researchers, but also international development policymakers. * Travis J. Bristol, Associate Professor, University of California, Berkeley, USA * This book advances epistemological and practical perspectives by which comparative education and teacher education have been interconnected in educational research. It should provide food for thought for students, faculty, and researchers interested in pursuing research that not only delves in the local context of teacher education, but also compares it with international experiences in the field. -- Ana Ivenicki, Emeritus Professor in Education, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil This book is a comprehensive examination of comparative and international education within teacher education that showcases new ways of placing teacher education within social movements for equity, and justice, and provides examples from around the world for how to generate creative pathways for change. The book will enhance those in teacher-training programs to know more about practices in other countries. -- Rosalind Raby, Senior Lecturer, California State University, Northridge, USA
