However, Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest ("Devil" Forrest) chased and fought the 3rd through Tennessee and Northern Alabama. Due to exhaustion and wet ammunition, the 3rd was forced to surrender to Forrest and his men on June 3, 1863.
