Strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs) are used to intimidate activists, censor public debate, and limit social change. This study presents SLAPPs as a threat to democracy that must be fought. The book offers an overview of judicial intimidation against social and political activists, discusses social, political, and psychological issues surrounding SLAPPs, and details the rights that are threatened by SLAPPs, drawing on cases from the US, Canada, and Australia. Recommendations are given for surviving SLAPPs lawsuits, for both for law practitioners and for those targeted, and anti-SLAPPs laws are reviewed.
