In this work for scholars and students, editor Crotty (political science, Northeastern University) gathers scholars in political science and public policy to explore issues of the 2012 elections. The first chapter traces developments during Obama's first term and contrasts his first election campaign with his second campaign's more modest agenda. Later chapters deal with hot-button campaign issues such as gun control and examine areas including coalition building, the polarized two-party system, and identity politics in the emerging minority-majority era. Contributors also address macro- and micro-marketing of campaigns and candidates, the role of social media, and financing the 2012 presidential election.
