It is the only novel by Emily Brontƫ; It was first published in 1847 AD under the pseudonym Ellis Bell. Her sister, Charlotte Brontƫ, made amendments to the second edition of the novel after Emily''s death. She took the name of the novel from an estate in the Yorkshire meadows, a historic town in northern England. The novel reveals several clashes between romance and society, between poverty and wealth, and between loss and the desire for revenge. The reader stands before all of this in the overwhelming and destructive love emotion between Heathcliff, the foundling boy, and Catherine, the rich girl.
